2001-2005 West Coast Zinfandel Issue (July 2007 Issue)

When combining all the vintages by score and price, the 2004 has eight Great Values while the 2002 has seven, the 2003 has six and the 2001 and 2005 both have three.

When comparing wines scoring 90 points or more, only 30% of the 2002 and 2004 vintage wines average 90 points or above, the 2005 vintage has 28% while the 2001 has 22% and 2004 vintage has only 18%. In terms of price, the 2004 vintage averages $38, the 2002 averages $42, the 2001 and 2003 average $45, the 2005 averages $61.

At the high end the 2002 Chateau Potelle, Zinfandel Napa Valley Mt. Veeder V.G.S. averages 94 points and at $45 it is 41% of the average $111 price for a similar scoring wine earning a "Great Value" moniker. At $29 the 2003 Carlisle Winery, Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard Russian River averages 92 points and is 42% the average price earning it a "Great Value". At $14 the 2004 Gallo Family Vineyards, Zinfandel Sonoma County Reserve averages 89 points and is 40% the average price earning it a "Great Value". At the value price of $8 the 2004 Rancho Zabaco, Zinfandel California Dancing Bull averages 87 points and is 33% the average price earning it a "Great Value".
