This month's issue covers many West Coast Syrah, West Coast Cabernet Sauvignon and Southern Red Rhone wines that were scored last month by the wine critics although not many of them are great values.
At the high scoring end, the 2006 Betz, Syrah Red Mountain La Cote Rousse received an average score of 94 points and at $51 it is 41% of the average cost of a similar scoring West Coast Syrah earning it an "Great Value" moniker. The 2005 Januik Winery, Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley received an average score of 91 and at $28 it is 47% of the average $78 cost of a similar scoring West Coast Cabernet Sauvignon.
At the value end of $12 the 2005 Bonterra, Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino received an average score of 87 points and is 38% of the average $43 cost of a similar scoring West Coast Cabernet Sauvignon.
